Meet Your Instructor
Hi I'm Arthur, the founder of Birds Piano Academy. Want to know more about who you'll be learning from? Well read on.
I've been playing the piano now for over 30 years, and after achieving Grade 8 with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music I started touring as a session player in theatre shows all over the United Kingdom. I've had the fortune to have performed in venues such as Nottingham Arena, Liverpool Arena and Wembley Arena, as well as theatres from Aberdeen to Southampton and everywhere in between. In addition, I have lots of experience in recording studios, and with bands have played music all over the world, around Europe and from the USA to Australia. I've been teaching piano for over 17 years, and I'm also an approved tutor with the City of York Arts Council.
I really enjoy teaching piano in ways that make it engaging and fun, and love creating educational videos to help people like yourself be the best piano player that you can possibly be!
Course Description
Discover a more creative and enjoyable way to learn piano with The Creative Piano Method – Musical Beginnings.
This course is designed for complete beginners as well as anyone who wants to approach the piano in a more practical and creative way, and it will have you playing beautiful-sounding music from the very beginning. You’ll start by getting familiar with the keyboard and learning some simple chords, before gradually building those chords into flowing patterns and progressions. As you progress, you’ll learn how to make your chord changes smoother, add depth and expression to your playing, and explore different rhythms and patterns to create different feels.
The lessons are short, easy to follow, and focused on actually playing, guiding you step-by-step so that you can learn something, try it for yourself, and then build on it. You don't need to be able to read sheet music to take part, and we’ll keep the theory to a minimum so you can concentrate on making music rather than trying to remember lots of information.
As you progress through the course, you'll also be introduced to improvisation and playing by ear, showing you how to use a simple scale to create your own melodies over your chords. You’ll learn how to experiment with different musical ideas, develop simple melodies, and turn your chord progressions into your own unique pieces of music.
The course is structured in stages that gradually build your skills, with practical exercises and challenges along the way to help you put everything into practice. By the time you reach the end, you'll not only have learnt how to play chords and patterns — you'll be able to sit down at the piano and create your own music with confidence.
And this is only the beginning. Musical Beginnings is Part 1 of The Creative Piano Method, giving you a foundation that you can continue to build on as you explore more chords, patterns, improvisation techniques, playing by ear, and creative ways of approaching the piano.
